Unlocking motivation: the often skipped step to project success

People need a sense of meaning in their work, not just goals from above.

A solid reason behind the feature or project that people can get excited about makes all the difference.

Better outcomes, happier people.

I’ve seen so many projects where this step is skipped.

There can be two problems.

Either the outcome is not based on any objective metric.

Or the actual reason doesn’t motivate anyone to deliver.

Example: we know it’s a stupid idea, but the client wants to spend the money, so we said yes.

I am passionate about this because I see a real improvement in people’s well-being and the project’s success.

And it’s not that hard to do, it just takes an extra step.

A revenue goal can be tied to something meaningful, like delivering value to the users or increasing customer satisfaction.

To do that, “Why are we doing this?” is the most helpful question.

If a good answer is not easy to find, perhaps the project should be reframed until it is.

Then, let everyone know.

I have yet to have this strategy fail.

Best, Taj
