The cost of temptations
Two ways to save money on development costs is to avoid premature optimisation and keep things simple.
The goal is typically not to have an elegant solution, it’s to solve a problem for your customer.
Or perhaps find what customer to solve what problem for, depending on where in the journey you are.
Yet, this is still a struggle for me. I love having a custom built solution and tinker around.
The question I ask myself is:
How will doing that benefit [the goal]?
Building a nice sexy custom-built website for my business would be fun and is incredibly tempting, but if I just need to rapidly tweak my copy to test different offers a drag-and-drop website platform will do nicely.
Same goes for building software.
Don’t distract yourself with things you would love to build that won’t contribute massively to your goal.
Yours,
Taj
