Text → Image → 3D → Game
I’ve grow up around games and started on a ZX Spectrum where two cowboys made up of 10 pixels each were shooting at each other over a carriage in the middle.
Let’s just say that plenty of imagination was required to see it as a game.
But I was there in the mid to late 90s when first 3D accelerated games took off. I’ve built a few hobby games, but those were made with 2D engines.
My current project is my first time working with 3D graphics and there’s a lot of industry terms and technologies to learn. Vertexes and meshes, shaders, materials, lightning, shaders.
I’ve dabbled with Three.js in the prototype of the game. The thing is, if you’ve got 3D models, it’s fairly easy to pull them into the game and have them render on the screen.
The difficult, time-consuming part is actually building, rigging and animating the tons of 3D models that you need to craft your scene and characters.
AI-generated 3D has been the holy grail, and we’re finally getting closer to actually useful models.

Let’s make a cute piggy in Adobe Firefly. Alright, we got an image, now let’s turn it into a 3D model using TRELLIS.

That’s a GLB model you can pull straight into Three.js. It’s not perfect, but it’s fantastic for prototyping.
