First steps of aligning business & tech

How do you align business and tech?

A great starting point is to see if the company’s vision made it to the tech team members.

If they can answer what the company is doing and why, that’s a good start.

Do the answers vary a lot? You may want to address this first.

The next step is to have shared business goals.

The tech team should not be isolated, working on some features no one understands. They need to work on the most critical business problem.

The goal is not to build a new website. The goal might be to increase the conversion rate of the checkout process.

And yes, that may require a new website or at least rebuilding the checkout page.

However, defining goals in terms of outcomes, not features, allows the team to find a solution that may be better than building something new.
