Have the difficult conversations before writing code

Aligning your tech strategy to business goals is not optional. It’s required.

Let’s say you don’t do it. Somehow, the tech team gets a list of features to build with little context.

Who will use it? How many times a day? What growth are we expecting? What outcome are we trying to achieve?

Don’t ask. Just build it, and they will come. ❌

This is a recipe for disaster. I’ve been on teams that operated like that. We were building blind for a year only to deliver something no one needed.

Ask. You can only make good tech choices if you know the outcome. ✅

These conversations can be uncomfortable because they uncover if someone didn’t do their job properly.

But they are also necessary because it’s better to experience the discomfort before making the tech choices that are hard to reverse.

P.S. Did you ever demand answers before writing code? Did that turn out to be the right move? Let me know 👇🏻
