Why Excellence Matters
Outstanding teams deliver quality and are proud to show their work.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to be able to show an exceptional product to someone and say, I worked on that.
Many teams underestimate the significance of quality. But without striving for excellence, would you truly feel the urgency to showcase your product?
What is there to show if the UX is average, the design is mediocre, the code is buggy, and the experience is slow and clunky?
It has other implications:
- It’s not fun to work on.
- It’s hard to hire new talent.
- It’s even harder to keep talent from leaving.
So, it’s a downward spiral that is near impossible to turn around.
Yet, focusing on quality pays off. Software projects are constantly sliding. There is no status quo.
The only question is, is the product getting better over time? Or worse?
In my experience, there is a niche for mediocre products. The companies that drift there usually target B-tier markets. And if they’re willing to compromise on quality, it’s easy to compromise on ethics to stay in the game.
I choose not to compromise. And I want to see a world where we focus on quality over quick wins.
Especially in software. Let’s make it fast, obvious, and practical so we can be proud of what we ship.
Quality is profitable.
