Optimize for going from idea → production

The sooner you involve tech, the better off you’ll be.

A lot of waste comes from product teams having a “good idea” and then working with marketing, sales, and design to get to a polished state.

We’re talking production-grade designs, marketing strategies, and creatives.

Then, they walk up to the tech team. Hey, CTO, we would like you to build that.

Aaaalright, let me get my machete.

Chop, here goes a feature. Chop, we don’t have that data yet. Chop, this part breaks several GDPR rules. CHOP, would you still want it if this would take half a year to build?

Months of effort are wasted because several parts are not technically feasible with the resources available.

I’ve been in that situation a lot over the years, and I never enjoyed that.

Whenever there is a disconnect between the “idea team” and the “execution team,” you get these waterfall processes.

Build in a silos. Present. Get feedback. Your design gets chopped. Go back, fix it, repeat. Five iterations later… alright, let’s build it.

By the time you even start coding, it’s already too late.

There’s a better way to do it.

Merge those two teams.

Generate ideas, build prototypes, test them in front of your users, and get real-time feedback on what’s feasible.

The execution team can find opportunities if you expose them to ideas early and often.

Optimize for going from idea → production.

Best regards,
