The 3 minute demo
Here’s a suggestion that has proven to work well for me and my teams:
At the end of the day, as you wrap up, record a short demo of what you accomplished and share it with the team.
Add any blockers or important information they need for a great start the next day.
Free ways to do it:* QuickTime Player, OBS Studio*
Paid services:
Loom, ClickUp, ScreenRec, Wistia, Sendspark, Vidyard, ScreenFlow …
It’s especially useful for remote-only teams, but even in an office, checking only the updates you’re interested in at your pace, can save everyone time.
A few considerations before you implement:
- Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, but a screen-only recording works just as well.
- It’s a skill to learn but does not need to be complicated.
- It may put on the pressure to prepare something you can show instead of doing deep work.
On second thought, have you ever had someone on the daily trying to come up with what they were supposedly “working on” yesterday but have nothing to show?
Yeah, the format of the update is not the problem.
P.S. François sent me a reply yesterday saying that he kept this up after our project, and it also works well for his other freelance projects. 👌🏻
Best regards,
