No, send me your boss instead
As the CTO, almost everyone in the company will want to put something on your plate.
Strategic decision-making is key. If you said yes to every request, you’d overwhelm yourself and your team in 5 minutes.
If you say no to opportunities that would significantly impact the business’s bottom line, you’re doing the company a disservice.
It’s a tricky balance.
You choose by figuring out the impact.
Plenty of times, a request comes by proxy.
The one who is asking for something doesn’t know the impact. They are just playing telephone.
Here’s what I’ve found out…
You’ll want to weed out requests like that.
Ask for the outcome.
If you smell it’s not their accountability, ask them to send their boss instead.
If they don’t own either the budget or the result, it’s pointless to negotiate.
P.S. And don’t fix their printer either, politely. 😅
Have a fantastic start to next week,
Taj
