When starting a new software project, you may feel tempted to try a new framework or a different stack.

Bite your lips and don’t. 🚫

If I had a cent for every time I had to work in an obscure framework for a subsystem because the first developer had free reigns, I’d have one ice cream.

The thing is …

At the start, you want to build fast and adjust. Optimize for learning.

In an ideal world, you’d throw away the prototype and build it properly.

In the world we have prototypes become the products.

Make informed tech choices from the start:

• Choose boring tech that’s been proven to work. (and you have plenty of experience in)
• Something that you won’t have trouble hiring for.
• That makes the stack easy to learn and fast to develop.

Simple beats fancy.

Proven beats experimental.

Bonus: Use the foundations that someone else made for you. Don’t write your own Docker Composer; use docker-compose.
