Engineering leadership is a triangle.

It’s more about people and less about technology.

But it’s not just management.

It’s also about the product itself and the people who use it.

Here’s the thing …

If you want to do well,

be curious about what the users need and want,

find out how that helps the business grow,

and develop the tech that’s needed.

Of course, you’ll have dedicated roles in a company for each specializing in those.

But … if you, as the engineering lead, don’t have an intimate understanding of the users, the product, and the business, you are flying blind.

Being good at technology is not the end goal; it’s the baseline.

How you apply that tech to solve problems is what drives results.
