Avoding platform risk

Building a product that depends heavily on a platform you don’t control can be dangerous.

It’s even more dangerous than cloud lock-in. With some elbow grease, you can switch providers or migrate to self-hosted.

But if your entire business is built on an API someone else is providing, and they decide to cut you out for any reason (or they kill the product), you are in for a bad time.

Have a plan B if you go down that route before you commit.
