Three traits of successful developers

Software is hard because people are hard. Technology is usually the easy part.

To be a fantastic software engineer, you must hone your communication skills. That’s the baseline.

Then, here are three more qualities I look for:

**Curiosity: **a very underrated trait, but essential. A curious person will say, I don’t know, let’s try! They will get to the bottom of things. They’ll find joy instead of frustration in solving complex problems.

**Passion: **When did you last build something cool that wasn’t part of a job? If you don’t have that, you are like a car mechanic who takes the bus home. I want to see some side projects.

**Ownership: **I want someone I can leave with a task and trust that it will be taken care of. Someone who drives things forward, not because they have to, but because they want to.

Yours,

Taj
